Derbyshire Home from Hospital Support Service

South Derbyshire CVS (SDCVS) are pleased to be able to share the news that they have been successful in tendering for the Derbyshire Home from Hospital Support Service. SDCVS will be leading a consortium of voluntary sector organisations from across Derbyshire which includes Amber Valley CVS, Chesterfield Volunteer Centre, Erewash Voluntary Action CVS and Voluntary and Community Services Peaks and Dales. The service will cover the whole of Derbyshire, excluding Derby City, and will be delivered by a combination of staff and volunteers. The aim of the service is to provide practical support for vulnerable people when they leave hospital or for those living at home but at risk of admission to hospital.

The service will provide the following sorts of short term practical support for up to six weeks:

• Undertaking simple shopping and ensuring the client has a plan in place for this at the service end date.
• Making sure the home environment is warm, comfortable and clean.
• Arranging for key safes to be fitted and community alarm or telecare systems to be provided, where this is an identified need.
• Supporting clients to pay bills and make appointments.
• Collecting clients’ medication prescriptions.
•  Supporting clients to maintain and improve their social networks.
•  Supporting clients to understand care options and plan their future support.
• Signposting to other statutory, voluntary sector and community organisations.

During the six week period the service providers will also work with people to make sure that they are able to manage independently or with the right support from other appropriate services.

Sight Support Derbyshire - Erewash District

Volunteer - Mobile Information van driver.

About the opportunity

Join us by investing your time in doing something that makes a world of difference to people with sight loss. The Mobile Information Van serves as a vehicle to deliver information and demonstrate aids to visually impaired people, their friends and Carers. You will drive the Mobile Information Van to various locations around the county to provide information on all aspects of visual impairment, including benefits, leisure pursuits and local services, to name but a few. You can give as much time as you want to suit you.

About Sight Support Derbyshire - Erewash District

Sight Support Derbyshire exists to enhance the quality of life for visually impaired people by raising the resources necessary to provide a comprehensive range of supportive services and activities throughout Derbyshire.

What are they looking for?

What you will do:
• You will drive the Mobile Information Van to specific locations in the county, set up and supervise a stand of equipment and leaflets, take part in various events to provide information and advice to visually impaired people. you may be asked to demonstrate aids or equipment.
• The vehicle is stored in West Hallam and drivers will need to be able to transport themselves to this location to pick up

Skills you will need to have: A current driving licence is essential, good communication skills, able to demonstrate and explain use of equipment, have a good knowledge of Derbyshire, and have ability to work as a team.

Training and Support: We will give you visual impairment training and specific training of all the tasks. You will only go out on your own after your training and assessment. A member of staff will give you support throughout your training and will meet with you on a regular basis to see how things are going.

Practical Considerations

Volunteers must have a driving licence, Insurance requires volunteers to be over the age of 25. With own transport to enable pick up of vehicle.
Presentable with good communication skills.
Volunteers will need good mobility (To move presentation materials, and in order to when required safely guide persons who may have visual impairment).
Expenses: We will reimburse your out of pocket expenses in line with our expenses policy.

Before you start: You will need to provide us with the names of two people who can give us a character reference for you

Derbyshire Youth Offending Service

Restorative Justice Facilitator

 About the opportunity

Derbyshire Youth offending Service trains volunteers for the role of Restorative Justice Facilitator, primarily for the task of facilitating youth offender panels after a Referral Order has been imposed by the by the Court.

Volunteers will sit on a panel with a young person who has been given a court order (with their parent/carer) and will discuss and draw up a contract of work that the young person will need to complete whilst they are on their order.

Volunteers will need to attend review meetings to monitor progress and sign young people off their order once they have completed it. Possible mentoring roles could also be available in the future.

A Referral Order is a unique sentence, which directly involves the local community, as volunteers from the community to train as Referral Order panel members.

Referral Orders use restorative justice to encourage young people to take responsibility for their behaviour and at the same time giving them the opportunity to ‘make amends’.

The Referral Order panel is chaired by two volunteers from the community assisted by a member of the Youth Offending Team (YOT). The young person agrees a contract with the panel which can include reparation or restitution to their victim, as well as undertaking a programme of interventions and activities to address their offending behaviour.

The young person’s progress is monitored by the panel through regular review meetings attended by the young person.

About Derbyshire Youth Offending Service

Derbyshire Youth Offending Service is a Statutory organisation set up following the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act. It has representatives from the partner agencies, the police, health, education, probation and social services with the aim of preventing offending and re-offending by young people aged 10-17 years.

What are they looking for?

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, aged 18+ who have some time to give to helping their communities and children. We encourage a diverse range of volunteers to mirror the community they live in.

Practical Considerations

Derbyshire Youth Offending Service is committed to:
Train Volunteers to enable them to undertake this role which takes place over six evenings.
Ensure that all Volunteers are given the opportunity to undergo regular relevant training, on-going support and all expenses reimbursed.

Funding Workshop and Funding Surgeries

The Big Lottery Fund are providing Erewash based groups and organisations the opportunity to find out about two funding streams - Reaching Communities and Awards for All. The Big Lottery Fund distributes National Lottery Funding.

 

Vijay Kumari the Funding Officer for the East Midlands will deliver a workshop explaining about Reaching Communities and Awards for All. This will take place from 10am - 11am.

 

Six one to one funding surgeries are available to book where you can discuss your project ideas and seek further advice and help. 20 minute slots from 11.00am - 1.20pm. First come first served.
