Befriending Service.

Dear Colleague

It is with regret that I have to inform you that from the 1st May 2019 we will not be accepting any new referrals for our befriending service.

This is due to two key issues:

1. Derby and Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group decided that they will no longer fund befriending. Derbyshire County Council is still supporting us.

2. Our waiting lists are high and the board of trustees took the decision that going out to visit clients to put them on a waiting list was not good use of staff time and raises expectations we can’t meet.

Linda will be spending the next few months out and about in Erewash to recruit more volunteers to support our direct services including befriending. The trustees have agreed to revisit this in six months’ time and if more volunteers are recruited we will be opening up the list again.

We know that the service is desperately needed and as far as we are aware, ours is currently the only Befriending service in Erewash. We are doing everything we can to ensure that the service continues.

I am collating any responses to this to feed into our funders to highlight the impact this would have if we lost the service.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Volunteers Week Thank You Event

Thank you

to all our amazing volunteers

Your commitment and contribution as a volunteer really makes a difference

VOLUNTEERS THANK YOU and OPEN DAY

On: Thursday 6th June

10am - 3pm

At: Erewash Voluntary Action,

Granville Avenue, Long Eaton

Volunteers Week

VOLUNTEERS WEEK

1st - 7th June 2019

Over 21 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a year and this contributes to an estimated £23.9 billion to the UK economy. Behind these big numbers is a big contribution.

These 21 million are a shining example of how we can all make a big difference to individuals and communities every day from improving the environment we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contribute to a range of other essential services and support.

At the Volunteer Centre in Erewash we provide vital direct services with the help of volunteers in the form of befriending, sitting to allow carers a break, shopping and transport.  Just one hour a week makes a huge difference to someone’s life and for the volunteer it too can alleviate loneliness, help to make new friends and learn new skills. Free training is available as well as social events. People from all walks of life volunteer and all ages from teens to people in their 80s and beyond – it is therapeutic.
