NATIONAL BEFRIENDING WEEK -
1 TO 7 NOVEMBER 2018
Everyone needs other people but not everyone has someone. For people who become isolated because of ill health, disability or social disadvantage being matched with a befriender often fills a big gap.
People and communities are encouraged to recognise the benefits of befriending and its role tackling loneliness and social isolation during the annual Befriending Week from 1 to 7 November.
This year’s theme is “Befriending Builds Communities” and will celebrate the work of befriending organisations and projects throughout the country and raise awareness of befriending and the impact it has on individuals and communities.
The Volunteer Centre in Erewash recruit befrienders, sitters, shoppers and drivers to help people referred throughout the borough. If you have just one hour a week to spare to help someone near to you and would like more information please call 0115 9466740, pop in the Centre on Granville Avenue in Long Eaton, email linda@erewashcvs.org.uk or check out the national volunteering website www.do-it.org.uk and search for opportunities via your postcode.
People from all walks of life and all ages volunteer and for some it can help them meet new friends, learn new skills, find a new career and feel valued. Out of pocket expenses and training is provided.
The team look forward to hearing from you, it might just be the best thing you ever did! Thank you.
