Introducing the Compassionate Communities Project

Introducing the
Compassionate Communities Project

Compassionate Communities aims to engage and empower people and communities to have conversations about and take action in relation to death, dying, bereavement and loss, ultimately enabling people to share their preferences and wishes about this.

The pilot project is funded by Derbyshire County Council in Erewash, South Derbyshire and High Peak areas. Treetops Hospice Care will lead the pilot project running in Erewash and South Derbyshire. Age UK will lead the project in High Peak.

The project will run until the end of March 2019 and Treetops will be working in partnership with Erewash Voluntary Action and South Derbyshire CVS.

The project will include:

· A befriending service in Erewash and South Derbyshire that reaches out to people with a life limiting illness, to offer companionship, reduce isolation and assist them to gain the appropriate support to meet their needs

· Engaging businesses to be more aware of the impact life limiting illnesses have on their employees and families, and encourage them to commit to becoming more supportive and compassionate

· Events that help start conversations about dying, death, bereavement and loss whilst removing some of the barriers people face when doing this

For further information, please contact Julie Mehigan at Treetops Hospice Care on 0115 949 1264 or email jmehigan@treetopshospice.org.uk
